Background of Donatello
Donatello, born Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi around 1386 in Florence, Italy, is one of the most renowned sculptors of the Italian Renaissance. Donatello apprenticed with Lorenzo Ghiberti, a master sculptor, and gained valuable experience working on the bronze doors of the Florence Baptistery.
