John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. After the death of his father, Tolkien moved with his mother and brother to England, where they settled in Birmingham. Tolkien attended King Edward’s School in Birmingham and later Exeter College, Oxford, where he studied English Language and Literature.
